Guess who's back? Day 8!

After a long absence, I bring you.

DAY NUMBER EIGHT!

Day 8:
"Snoor, snoo, sleep" etc

Cockledoodledoo! Cockledoodledoo! Cockledoodledoo! Pants...
Apparently, our hut was next to a farm of some sort and so the roosters were up and about. It also didn’t help that someone kept trying to ring Sat from 7am to 8:30am and whenever Sat answered it, he couldn’t hear the other line! And to top it all off, someone next door to us (whatever that means in a hut, cos there was only one door to get in!) had a radio and was listening to it all night! I still got sleep though.

This is actually the day where I get to do my first (and only) bit of teaching for the trip. Sat managed to wrangle me in yesterday to talk to the village folk about ‘What the Holy Spirit does.”

We were up early and I have the worst bath ever! Please, please take me back to Banda where I had a door and concrete floor! Nuff said about that.
The holes in the ground also stank. Please, please take me back to Banda.
Breakfast is 3 hours late. Please, please… oh, you get the picture.

Anyway, we asked the girlies how their night was. ‘Cockroaches, spider’ etc…
And then we wait. We played ‘Stop the Bus’ ate breakfast and waited some more. Then, finally, at half past 2 (2 ½ hours late) we began teaching.
Everyone in the village seemed really receptive and after lunch, I had my go. I started off a bit nervous but God gave me the confidence. It was actually a privilege being able to share Gods word with them… however, Maz was less impress and she fell asleep during Christine’s teaching!

Afterwards, Sat asked me if I’d enjoyed it.
“I can’t say I’m disappointed it’s over”, is the reply.

Next we showed the Jesus video. Patrick (one of the interpreters) spoke for about an hour inviting people along before the film begins. Loads of people showed up. All of us (bar Loz) try to catch some sleep in the van while it’s playing though. The entire film was in Luganda, which, although funny to watch for about 5 mins cos of the lip syncing, can get a bit boring!

However, sleep doesn’t happen, because we got treated to the most unbelievably spectacular natural light show I’ve ever seen. Forget the laser show at Seaworld. This rocked! Lightning without ANY thunder lit up the entire sky. I can’t explain how much in awe I was of it. My jaw could’ve hit the ground – multiple times (if it was still huge!). God’s creation is an awesome thing. None of the Africans cared of course. No big deal to them.

After the Jesus video we went around talking to people who had seen it. Reg and myself met this really nice pastor guy. He translated for us even though we didn’t know him! Nobody lied either. All they said was ‘Not today’, which was actually pretty aggravating too. I told them to come to church tomorrow then!

In Uganda, it really doesn’t matter what time you eat, and even though we were all shattered, they insisted on bringing us dinner at 11’o clock. We ended up getting to bed at about 12 hoping we’d get enough church rest for tomorrows church meeting. Andy swapped beds with me because he needed more room. “Why put that in the diary?” I hear you say. And we were glad because it was our last night here in the hut.

Comments:
Can't believe how long it took you to type that out!!

Yeah. I mean, it wasn't like I was doing anything else like having a full conversation.
