Interesting Evening

Wow, I've just posted twice in about a twenty minute period.

Not bad for me at all.

Well, since my car had its window smashed I've quickly found out that there have been a lot of car related mishaps on my street alone. Most of the time its actually scratches and some people have dents, so I'm actually thanking God that it was only my window that was damaged.

My car has now been put on the drive, which is really nice of my parents because my mum's car has been scratched too.

But tonite I decided to put matters into my own hands slightly. Nothing too amazing (sorry guys and gals) but I managed to catch 3 little gimps (looked about 15 y/o) walk past my living room window and one of them stared me in the eye. I got up and went to look what they were upto from my bro's bedroom and sure enough they were pratting around by someones Polo. And they should not pick on Polo's! So being the amazing buff, tough guy that I am (lol!) I put on my trainers, slammed my front and just walked upto them, and even though I weight like under 10 stone, they ran, which I fought was just great! I couldn't be bothered to run after them cos I thought it was look cooler and a bit more calm if I walked :) and I don't fink I would've been able to catch em anyway.

The police showed up later and offered me and my brother the chance to see if we could recognise any kids on the other end of our estate by driving past them.

'Sounds like fun' I said.

Well, it would've been hilarious if the same kids were in the group of about 10, but niether me or my brother recognised them, which was a bit crap.

Was my first time in a police car though!

I'm just praying that they are caught doing something and soon cos it's just muppet like when you cause a grands worth of damage to a car which is what they've done to one persons car and I don't particulary want my car damaged again either.

There's a guy who lives opposite us who's putting up camara's tomorrow but we just need some megawatt halogen lights! That'd be cool.

Citizens arrest sounds like fun too...

Day Number 2:

As promised, here is day 2 of my Diary. Enjoy!

Day 2:
Up at 7:30, showered etc. Forced myself to eat a banana at breakfast cos I guessed I’d have to be eating a lot more out here. Squeezed into the minibus (4 in the back) and just stared in awe as we travelled to Kampala. Oh, before we set out, Sat was holding hands with a great guy called John. One of the missionaries from Luweero.

We were seeing Uganda in daylight for the first time. The community spirit was fantastic. People were talking everywhere. There were so many shops that looked like they’d fall down any minute. Adverts painted on the front of shops. I can’t fully describe in words what it was like. You just have to go!

Now, we were driving. This in itself is fun because everyone is a maniac on the road. Cutting others up, turning with no right of way, going up on the inside. However, the taxi buses were the most insane. Supposed to fit about 10 but there are usually 20 odd people in one and they go fast! Nutters.

The central area of Kampala was very nice. It clearly had a lot of Western influence. Especially the mall we went to (Garden City) which had been built for the purpose of serving tourists. Changed our money there and went on our way to Luweero. I was excited about seeing where Sat had stayed and also meeting the people who he had spoken about.

But we had to get there first. So, we were going along this road to Luweero (very, very hilly) and we are following Andrew who is pretty sane. He overtakes when it is safe. Our driver overtakes on turns, on the brow of hills and even when cars are coming towards us. At one point we were literally feet from death. We get to Luweero after some heavy praying and Sat sacks the driver. Oh, btw, the thermometer in Andrew’s 4x4 reads 38c. It feels so good. We met loads of Sat’s old mates plus the rest of the Quill family. Kids are very cute.

We walked around the town. Everything was so close together. We had chips and chicken for lunch. I guess the Guest House didn’t think we could handle the African stuff just yet. Walked around a lot more of the town after a nap. All we heard from the kids was shouts of ‘Mzungu! Bzungu!’ EVERYWHERE. Children actually followed us as we walked and always smiled and waved if we did too. We met the bishop of Luweero. Very nice guy. He was 2nd choice for Archbishop for the whole of Uganda. Big house too.

Next we went to Andrew and Joanne’s. We had the nicest chocolate cake in the world (Joanne made it with help from David – their youngest) and we had a great time of praise and worship. God really came. We had some fellowship and went out at night in Luweero for the first time. Stars were amazing. Hang on. Shouldn’t there be mozzies? Wait, this is weird. There were none… great!

Got back to the Guest House and practised drama’s. We even got Jimmy (young missionary helper) involved. Sat does ‘Can’t Touch This’ and nails it first time. But it was so funny. Eat dinner at 9pm – this is usual in Uganda. Killed a noisy cricket outside our door (Andy accidently steps on it!) and we find out that the room we stayed in was actually the same room Sat was in for 6 months.

Kids are great. People are great. Sleep is great.

Awesome

The title is slight sarcastic due my funny duddy sorta day.

Started out nice enough. I over slept actually so I was a bit miffed but didn't care too much.

Work was ok. But I've figured out that the money I earned while at work today wasn't actually enough to cover what happened later.

I'm sure you all know that I've got a car, and there should only be one person reading this blog who knows what happens next.

I got the car today. It's really nice actually. They've replaced quite a lot of it so it runs sooo good... obviously my bank account doesn't like the fact that it's not quite as large as it was this morning, but I needed a car. Ho-hum.

I was actually quite worried about driving it home in case I was crap and crashed it before I'd even had the chance to use it, but I got home safely, which was a good feeling!

So, just to re cap. I bought said car at 5:00pm was worried about driving it home but everything was fine... or so I thought.

8:50pm: Doorbell rings. I think *who the heck is that* 1 minute later I find out that it's my neighbour and she's noticed that someones car outside the house has a smashed backdoor window.

Yes, yes. I think I've just made the fasted claim in the history of the world ever. I had the car for little over 3 hours and I've already had to pay £50.

If this keeps up, I'm going to be broke and fast. The only redeeming factor in this is that my no claims bonus isn't affected (praise Jesus) but I do have to pay the excess on my policy (£50)

I think I'm going to be in a slight state of shock for at least a week over this. Plus, when I went to use my pen to write down some details, I found out that it's leaking. And it's my favourite pen!

The spirit realm is real and it's got something against me being a Christian.

Diary of a time long ago...

Cos I'm lazy - well, some of the time - I've decided to put up my Uganda diary on my blog. It's the only time I've ever kept a diary and it gives me an excuse to be able to put all of it on the computer rather than keeping it in my small blue book.

BTW, I'm getting a car tomorrow! Peugeot 306. :D

Day 1:
3:30am. Got up! What the heck was I doing? Getting up this early was the biggest sacrifice I had to make so far. Forget the jabs and money spent…

My travels started by walking up to the building with Nig to meet Andy. Andy was 5 minutes late, but who could blame him? My stuff was already in a trailer on the back of Andy’s 4x4 as was everyone else’s. I only had a small hand luggage bag with a nights worth of gear on me. We arrived on time at Reg and Anne’s to pick up those guys plus Maz and Loz. And off we went.

The indicator on the 4x4 was really annoying. It beeped every single time it went on to let us know the trailer was still attached. Getting some sleep wasn’t going to happen. We got to the airport at 6:30, said bye to Nig and lined up in the queue for Kenya Airways – The Pride of Africa (apparently). Little did I know this would be the last time I’d see lots of mzungu for some time.

Checked in, but not after Sat and Christine had pushed in front of everyone else in the queue – they arrived as we were checking in (good timing). Luckily the metal in my jaw didn’t set off the metal detector. However, my bag was checked… for drugs!

Anyway. The toilets at Heathrow were cool, cos you just had to wave over them, Jedi style, for them to flush. Had a full fat breakfast at an Italian place (the only place I’ve found who don’t accept tips) and Sat started his camcorder journey.

Got on the plane at 10am and started talking to this American person called Sarah. Nice enough person, but I preferred to not talk. I’d been up for 6 ½ hours. Sleep was on my mind. There was actually a seat separating us, which I would’ve loved somebody less chatty to sit in.

Pants.

A little girl who couldn’t keep still and kept asking for chocolate sat there. I didn’t mind her too much when I was awake - it was when I had finally managed to get to sleep and she woke me up 2 minutes later to climb over me that annoyed me the most!

Great views on the plane. We could see the Alps and we could see the shoreline of Africa stretching for hundreds of miles as we flew into the continent.
8 hours later, the plane landed in Nairobi. And my bag was checked again… Reg almost had some clippers taken off him but he kicked up a fuss so they let him take them on!

Got on to the final plane. No TV. No music. But I did manage to sleep for 30 mins on the 50 min flight. Got off. Got bags but not without a few dodgy looks off of the Ugandan security men as we lugged around 4 marquees. Met Andrew. Really nice bloke. Went to a travel hotel in Entebbe to sleep. Mosquito nets were weird. Ants came to and from the toilet and there were cockroaches on the floor –
Welcome to Uganda!

Wow. Uni can be fun

Because of the apparent 'shock to the system' many people seemed to have aquired from reading my last blog, it reminded me of something we did in Uni yesterday.

Let me set the scene for you. The course is Human Physiology, the practical was to do with motor neurons and the method involved electricity. Oh yes. We got to electrocute each other!

We had to measure reaction time from applying the stimulus to when the muscle moved. I had quite fast reaction times compared to other people, all thoughthis might be to do with the fact that I did turn the voltage up to 90V when it should've been on around 50V... the muscle we testing on was actually the one on your hand that moves your little finger in and out. When I put the voltage up to 90V my entire arm moved out!

Killing people with electricity in Uni. :)

Oh, that reminds me of something else. I played Killer at Uni yesterday (pool) and won both games! I knew I should've put a £10 down cos then I'd be £50 richer. In fact, I knew I should've put £100 down then I'd be £500 richer... In fact... etc etc...

Gambling is bad mmkay. Although my Itbox addiction is under control. I only put in about £2 a week now. Yes, yes. I know it's £100 a year but it is actually really good at passing the time, and one day, one day soon, I will win the jackpot on Cluedo. And then I'll stop... for a while.

Maybe.

Today was also quite fun at Uni. We got to analyse our DNA. I found out that I don't have any trace of a certain gene which put me in the minority. Whatever. I'm already in the minority!

I'm probably going to go and eat now, and hopefully T will txt me back telling me I can come to the cinema as long as I can organise a lift.

I want a car, and I want one now.
(Every single time I went to spell 'now' in that blog, I put 'know' first?)

Genius.

No it can't be...

OH MY LORD. It's an update?! No way...

Well, contrary to popular belief, I do in fact have enough stuff to write about in this blog to fill up an entire book of the best bits of my life.

The only problem is I've got a really short memory so I can't remember much of it...
So I might add in really random sentences as things come back to me. Try to keep up (This sentence was actually added about 5 mins after I'd written the previous one, so in essence, this is my 1st random sentence!)

Sorry, what was I talking about?

The last time I posted. Christmas morning. You'd think I'd have better stuff to do on Christmas day at 2am, such as... well... sleeping but I was just so grateful for all the pressies I got! Mint as you like.

And what have I been doing with my presents, I hear you probably not ask.
Well, I'll tell you.

I've been using them. Yes. The webcam is now up and running. Unfortunately, I'm still too pretty to be unleashed upon the internet as a moving picture. (Cries from yonder, 'Liar... you are butt ugly')

*Cough*

Sorry, got a frog in my fingers.

'Temptation! Say No!'

Yeah, that was a fun night. We went to see 'The Band with No Name' in Bath in the middle of Jan and they had a rap group which sang a song called 'Temptation! Say No!' and they got the whole crowd to sing it back. Am I making it sound good? I hope not, cos it was a bit bad.

Exams:
I had 6 exams during January. I've got one of the results back. I did very well and I hope to continue with the same grades when I get the next 5 in the next couple of weeks. Oh, BTW, I'm studying Biochemistry at UWE in Bristol. Have I mentioned that before? It was so long ago...

But yeah. I think I did pretty well on the others and after my first result, I'm pretty confident that the others will be fine. Cept Microbiology... but we'll see. Or if you don't care, it'll just be me who see's.

And then we'll see who see's. Indeed.

I'm looking for a car atm too. I've got my eye on a Peugeot (I actually spelt it right first time!) 306 or a Citroen Saxo. Even though I'm a student I've got £2000ish to spend (Gap years are great) so I shouldn't be looking for too long. Saying that, I've gone 3 weeks without any luck. Boo!

But pretty soon I'll be looking flash in my 306, crusing down the M32 like I was the person who layed down the tarmac. Oh yes.
Insurance is a little high though, so I'll probably try and not crash it.

Traffic light are there to be jumped though, yeah?

I've got a song going around in my head that we learned tonite at worship practice. By a guy called Tim Hughes. Very cool. Very, very cool. I was a bit disappointed that we didn't learn one of our own tonite though. (we've started to write songs ourselves for church cos it seems like a fun thing to do!) But hopefully in the next few weeks we'll get back to our stuff.

I'm meeting up with Trist, Mark, Andy, Joe and 'Dennis' on Thursday to get some more songs done for our little group. Me and Mark finished off one last week which I'm hoping to get done. I had a little help off 'Harriet' with that one, but we also need to learn one of Dennis' properly, cos he writes em but when you have to try and figure out what the tune is, it doesn't help when he's tone deaf!

Fun and games, eh!

Oh. Youth club has been a joy the past few weeks. We've changed the hours and split up the youngsters and older lot so it's less packed and so we get to actually spend quality time chatting to peeps rather than telling everyone to stop being muppets. I actually won a tennis tournament the other week, which I was pretty happy with. I fought I was gonna get whooped in the final although me and T did lose last Friday at badminton. Probably my fault, I guess, but T shouldn't have let me try to hit it so much.

God is good!
