Day 9

For all the new comers to my blog, the beginnings of this diary can be found in previous months from May backwards.

Enjoy! :)

Day 9:
Cockledoodledoo!!! (Noticing a pattern?) We forced ourselves up at 8am preparing to bathe and take down the mozzie nets. I chased the rooster around outside to try and shut it up, which was quite fun. In the night Andy had been bitten a few times but we weren’t sure what by… we found out when we took down the nets. There were massive holes in two of them and a large mound of dirt around Andy’s and Reg's beds.
Termites!
They’d eaten their way through the nets and partially through Andy’s legs. (Andy’s and Reg’s beds were both on the mound *shudder* and this made me very glad that I swapped beds with him! (sorry Andy!)

I had another bathe and put on my Sunday best. However, this wasn’t as easy as it sounds because there was an ant in my trousers and as I put my trousers on, it bit me three times. Evil ants! I shouted really, really loud each time too, but nobody heard me. How strange.

We hung about for a bit longer tidying up the van and then church started. Everyone looked well smart and the church was packed. Must’ve been 150 people there, easily. Maz preached and Anne and Andy taught and then we prayed for sick people.

I think God had a laugh at mine and Maz’s expense because we definitely cut the hard end of the bargain. We had to pray for 12 people (so many came forward) and 3 of them were apparently demonised! We were so tired afterwards but I was so glad that God had used us. One woman was shaking Maz’s hand so that it almost came off.

So, church had started at 12ish and finished at 2:30. Finally we could leave and go back to our 5 Star haven at Luwerro. Or so I thought, because it turned out that everybody wanted a photo. This was really nice if you knew the people, but I had loads of pics taken with people I didn’t even know! Well, they seemed to know me so it was ok.

We all ate lunch, and then managed to squeeze everybody (13 of us) into the 8 seat ride we had - including luggage. This wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be because we listened to love songs and the journey seemed to go much faster. Possibly because this time, Sat did know where he was going.

After 3 of the boys had left us (Jimmy, John and Patrick) I sat with Ester (Patrick’s wife) in the back of the minibus. I was so knackered that I went to sleep. The problem with this was that every time I dozed off, my right hand would fall from the hand grip in the bus and I would hit Ester with my right arm! Whoops.

Next thing I knew, Ester had gone (hating me, probably) and Christine was busy bartering for watermelons. She ended up with 5 for 1000 shillings (about 6p per melon). Not bad at all.

We finally got back to the Guest House. Hallelujah! This is our 5 Star haven. Or at least it felt like it after the past 3 days. We rested for a bit and then headed to John’s for dinner. *Dribble* It was good! Especially the pork. We had been totally spoilt. We also met ‘baby Sat’ for the first time. He was well cute but very shy. And to round of the evening we played…. Mafia! Or, as it has been Christened in Uganda, ‘Rebel’. This was hilarious. I died both times as a villager but both the games were great. We also played Stop the Bus again and Andy took the gold with an ‘All Pay’ move. Skank!

We left John’s in one of the many power cuts and went back to the Guest House. It was so great to have a comfy mattress, running water and a pillow!
