Maybe, just maybe Maria was tired. She had not had any tea/ supper whatever you call it. I think she was tired.

"Not Maria" must get up really early in the morning then!!!! Which means by home-group time she is tired. That is possibly how come she can ask whether the car is locked while holding the car door wide open.
